The Eye

Went to the Dr. this morning and received a good report. He said he thought it had improved a little in just 24 hours. I am to stay on the new eye drop frequency that he started me on yesterday and go see him on Tuesday the 4th.
Temperature is in the upper 70s, but supposed to cool off with showers and maybe some thunder through Monday.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Filbert

The Eye

Well it turns out that the Dr. appointment I thought was going to be Tuesday actually was today. I believe the Dr. is going to be a good fit for my situation . He is doing a little bit of an experiment with the eye drops. He is not too worried about the infection and thinks that maybe the eye drop frequency that I have been doing is hindering the healing, so he is suggesting I go to a 2 hour frequency with the Vigamox and Vancomyicin, 4x a day with the Predesone, and start using the ASEDs again, 4x a day. No more Muro ointment for the present time. Also he wants me to do the drops once during the night. He also removed a stitch that was loose.
I will be seeing him again tomorrow, although, he doesn't really expect much change in the eye. He is not in on Friday, so I'm sure that is the reason for tomorrow's appointment.  Then I'm guessing I will again see him on Monday.
.
Ketch you all tomorrow,
Filbert

Dr. Fouraker...Phil's Cornea Specialist

Before we left towards Michigan ....I had to show you what a "Super Caring & Excellent" doctor looks like!

The Eye

Well Greetings from Northern Georgia the Peach State. Yep, we left Florida this morning headed for Michigan. The Dr. said the eye was improved enough that he felt comfortable to turn us loose to the North land. He will be calling a Dr. in Traverse City, MI. to brief him on the condition of my eye and how he has been treating it. He will also be scheduling an appointment for me to see him, hopefully on Tuesday the 28th.
So, you all have a Wonderful Memorial Day Weekend
Until next time,
Filbert

Headed NORTH !

Phil & I met with his Cornea Specialist in Brandon FL @ 7:30am.  After a number of tests & poking/prodding Filbert's eye (which is partially sewn shut to aid healing )...we were given the doctor's blessing to leave the area ! :)  The "Condition " is that Filbert see a Cornea Specialist for followup appointment this coming Tuesday in Traverse City .!  We quickly packed up Harvey ...and pointed him North via I-75!

May 16, 2013-Grandson Cody Coblentz & friend Stephany Bell on Siesta Beach, Sarasota, FL

Enjoying the Florida water and sunset

The Eye

Well, guess what? Good news & not so good news.... We are still in FL. till at least Thursday the 23rd!!! At that time, I will see the eye Dr. again. He was very surprised today to find a new ulcerated spot on my cornea. He doesn't have any idea what caused it, but he did take a culture to determine exactly what it is. Hopefully no new bacteria and he said he didn't suspect any new infection. He did say the cornea appears to be more round than it was previously on last Thursday. Also, the eye sight has improved a very teeny bit since post-op appointment, last Thursday.
We are at a RV Park about 15 miles N.W. of Brandon where the Dr. is located.
So until Thursday,

The Eye

Just got out of the Doctors office. The Dr. was pleased with the results of yesterdays surgery. He put in 4 stitches replacing the one that I broke in Feb. which caused all the problems I have been having with the infection. He also replaced 1 in the 2:00 area of my eye that I had broken a year ago. He also put a couple of stitches in the outside edge of my eye lids to help contain the natural moisture generated by the tear ducts. He said this should speed up the healing process.
I am to continue the same eye drop frequency that I have been doing, till I see him next on Monday the 20th. If everything continues to progress as has been, he will then let us head North to Michigan.
Thanks again for all the Thoughts and Prayers. Have an awesome week end,
Filbert

Ye Ole Eyeball

Well I am home from the "Horse-pistol". Don't know what they did to me. Ralph the anesthesiologist introduced himself to me, but I never did see him again. Must have had some sneak attack somehow, somewhat, someplace, somewhere when I wasn't looking. Leslie and Lori (operating room nurses) were wheeling me towards the operating room, when next thing I knew, I woke up in the recovery room with a patch over my eye. Guess they must've botched something and didn't want me to see it! :)
I see the Dr. tomorrow, at 7:30 in the morning, then maybe he'll allow me a peek.(LOL)  Don't know what to do with all my free time till then, as the ORDER is NO eye drops or ointment in the eye till tomorrow after the doctor follow-up appointment!.
Everything went well and good, at least, that's what they're telling me. I'll update you all tomorrow.
Thanks "MUCHO" for your Thoughts and Prayers,

Filbert

The Eye

Just got home from the Dr.  Everything remains the same and we are on schedule for the suture replacement early Wednesday morning. He said to keep on the same schedule of eye drops and ointment till surgery time. He also said he will probably put a stitch in the outside corner of my eyelids to keep them partially closed to speed up the healing process. I will see him fairly early Thursday morning as a post-operation follow-up. He says he likes to see people early, just in case he needs to correct something.
So, I guess until Wednesday, that's what's happening here.

The Eye

The Dr. visit today was quite different. He was so excited about my scheduled surgery on Wed. the 15th that he didn't even mention the condition of the eye other than we are to continue hitting it hard with the prescriptions that I have been doing the last couple of weeks.
I think he got all caught up in talking about Grand kids. I'm sure everything is continuing to improve, or he would've mentioned it and changed the dosages of the eye drops.
My next appointment is Monday the 13th.

Enjoy your weekend when it gets to you,

Filbert

The Eye

The trip to the Doctors today was successful. The Retina Specialist said everything is looking good enough that he said I didn't need to see him again, unless Dr. Fouraker thought it necessary.
Dr. Fouracker said, the infection is down considerably and if it continues to recede as it has been doing, these last couple of weeks, he should feel comfortable to replace the broken suture. He said he would most likely need to replace the broken suture with 2 stitches- maybe 3. My next appointment with Dr. Fouraker is this Thursday, May 9.

Until then,

Filbert

Very nice Birthday !

About noonday we left for Clermont FL.  It is about 20 minutes North of where we are located .....First we drove to downtown historic Clermont where I wandered all 3 blocks, while Phil did his eye drops...We were going to a movie at 2....but that movie was cancelled so they could handle an overflow of Iron Man 3 movie.  So we got tickets for the 5pm movie of "Home Run"....With over 3 hrs of waiting time we explored Clermont Crossing Shopping Mall...."discovered" lots of things that we don't want or need! :)  Although, I did get a chance to have my ice cream dessert first at Abracadabra Ice Cream Factory !...After "Home Run"....we used a Christmas gift card for Olive Garden and enjoyed a great birthday dinner with nice glass of white wine !  Got home about 9:30pm to many V/M & e-mail wishes ! It was a nice birthday :)

Yummy end result ...a dish of turtle ice cream !

M-m-m!!

THANK YOU !!!

To all who sent Happy Birthday wishes ....I really appreciate your thoughts & covet your prayers ! Blessings to you all !

The Eye

The Dr. was happy when I saw him on Monday. When I saw him today he was still happy with what he saw peeking into my eye with his bright light and magnifying glasses. He said the infection is definitely getting smaller and that the epithelial cells are moving around and rebuilding which is a very good sign. He said the infection is a small thing to deal with, compared to getting the epithelial cells to multiply and rebuild.
My next appointment is Monday the 7th.

So, until then,

Filbert
