The Eye

I didn't have a computer Wednesday, so here is Wednesday's report. It wasn't so good, as there was a little more infection. Today it is better. Swelling and infection is down a little and the epithelial cells are growing. Had a good visit with the Dr. He explained that he could use a stronger medicine to get rid of the infection in a hurry, but, it would kill the transplant in the process. So he has to find a happy medium to have successful results.
My next appointment is Monday and I also see one of the Retina Specialists Monday.
Have a Wonderful Easter weekend,
Filbert

The Eye

Happy Monday was the Dr,'s reaction today!   Infection and swelling have receded. Epithelial Cells are growing and multiplying. I see him again Wednesday and Friday of this week. Had a wonderful wind and rain storm yesterday, 80 to 85 wind gusts and 2 inches of rain in a couple of hours- but we are all well and everything was practically back to normal an hour after the storm went through our area.

Until next time,

The Eye

Dr. Fouraker was really HAPPY today. He said the eye is looking good. the cells are rebuilding and the swelling and infection went down just since Wednesday. He must be feeling better as he didn't say I might call you Saturday or Sunday. He just said I'll see you Monday, don't change anything with the eye drop schedule.

Have a GOOD weekend,

Filbert

The Eye

Another one of those days. Waited at the hospital over 2 hours to see the Dr., then waited 2 1/2 hours for a prescription. Should have ordered the prescription before I went to the appointed place to meet the Dr. The Dr. said the good news is bigger than the bad news. I guess that means we are still gaining. The cells are rebuilding and the infection is receding. He is pretty sure that he is going to have to replace the suture that broke, but he doesn't want to do it till the infection is gone.
I told him that I am getting a little frustrated through all this, but, he said hang in there we are accomplishing good things. He told me today, that I had been very close to completely loosing my eye. It's hard to stay positive all the time with the added financial costs and changing of travel plans, but I am sure it will all work out eventually.

Until Friday,

Eye

The latest is that Dr. Fouraker said today that there is still some infection and some redness in the eye. Where the suture broke the transplanted cornea is not laying down like he would like for it to do. If it doesn't lay down soon, he will have to replace the broken suture with a new one which he doesn't want to do especially while the infection is still present.Other than all of that stuff, it's still improving, just not as quick as we'd like it to. I see the Dr. again on Wed. and Fri.
I also saw the Retina Specialist today that first treated me, and he said, the eye is much improved from the last time he saw me. The retina is doing fine. My next appointment with the Retina people is the 1st of April, the day that we had planned on heading North. Oh well, I guess plans can be changed.

Until Wednesday,

Eye

Martie was using my computer working on our taxes last night, so here is yesterdays update. The Dr. was HAPPY. He said the infection had receded from the day before. He also had a conference with all 3 Retina Specialist and they are all on the same page.
The appointment today was also good. The epithelial cells are reproducing and beginning to cover the cornea to help it to lay down and regain the round shape that it is supposed to be. My next appointment is scheduled for Monday, but I expect him to call me in the morning wanting to check me again as he says "my eye is making him nervous". He is concerned that my eye is still quite red. He is very knowledgeable and conscientious about what he does.

Until next time,

Filbert

The Eye

Dr. Fouraker was not happy with the condition of the eye today. He said the infection was a little larger than it was Monday. When I told him the retina Dr. had changed my eye drop frequency, he said that is why the infection grew and to go back to the 1 hour frequency with the Vigamox and the Vancomycin. I don't have to do it from midnight till 6:00 in the morning, so I get to sleep all night. The Porte Forte and the Muro ointment are still 4 times a day. That being said I now get to see DR. Fouraker again tomorrow, Fri., and Monday. I also am scheduled to see Dr. Pedan (the original retina specialist) on Monday.

Until Tomorrow

Eye Eye

Whoopee, no alarm clock tonight for eye drops. Dr. Fouraker said today "eye keep on healing". I take that to mean that he's happy the way the eye is responding at this time. Dr. Suner at the Retina Office,  said looking good enough to change the eye drop frequency to 4 times a day, Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and bed time.
I see Dr. Fouraker on Wednesday and again Friday. I see the Retina Specialist on Friday also.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers,

Until Wednesday,

Filbert

Eye Eye

Well. about 10:15 this morning I received a telephone call from my eye Dr. wanting to know how the eye was feeling. I told him it was feeling fine and I think I could actually see a little better than yesterday. He was pleasantly surprised and asked if I would be willing to come to Tampa ( 67 Miles)so he could take a look at my eye... as he is very concerned and doesn't want it to get worse in anyway. The bacteria I have (which is on the back side retina) is Moraxilla and I have a Staph infection on the surface of the cornea. He was very pleased that the area where the suture broke is laying back down. He removed the clear band-aid (contact lens) and inserted a new one. He is thing that this is helping the cornea to regain its somewhat round shape, which is desired. If it doesn't lay down normally, he will have to replace the suture which he DOES NOT want to do since this is the main area that is infected. I am to continue with the around the clock eye drops and see him on Monday.

So until then,

Filbert
